"THE MEDIOCRE TEACHER TELLS. THE GOOD TEACHER EXPLAINS. THE SUPERIOR TEACHER DEMONSTRATES. THE GREAT TEACHER INSPIRES.
-William Glasser
About Ms. Smith: My name is Ms. Sara Smith! I have always known I have wanted to be a teacher. I am from a small farm town in Missouri and attended college in Kansas City, Missouri. I received a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I also have a Master's degree in Literacy Education that I received at SUNY Oswego in New York. This will be my 12th year teaching Pre-K. I have taught Pre-K in Missouri, New York, and now North Carolina. I love working with Pre-K children and have a passion for teaching young children.
My Philosophy: I have a strong belief in providing hands-on, meaningful experiences for children in the classroom. I have a creative style, and children in this classroom will be encouraged to build, construct, and create using a variety of art, building, and science materials. My goal is to provide experiences that children will remember forever, and lessons learned will carry on many years after they have left pre-k. Most importantly, learning should be an experience that can be enjoyed!

Centers: In our room we have several centers the children can utilize during center time. Children choose their own centers and materials are provided to create meaningful learning experiences.
- Blocks-A variety of wooden shaped blocks and accessories are provided (people, cars, signs) for children to build with. This helps to accommodate learning shapes, fitting shapes together, experimenting with planning and building structures, and getting practice in using a more complex vocabulary.
- Housekeeping-This area has a child sized pretend kitchen, baby dolls, pretend food, and dishes. Themes are changed throughout the year. This area allows children to practice using language with peers and helps them learn how to build relationships.
- Art-A variety of art materials are presented for children to create independently.
- Water and Sand-Children experiment using tools in the water and sand table. Tools will be rotated so that children can have new experiences.
- Book Area-A variety of literature, as well as materials to accommodate language development are provided. There are puppets, felt pieces, and alphabet games as well in this center.
- Table toys-The table toy center provides a variety of math and manipulative materials for children to explore and build with.
- Science-The science table provides a variety of materials children can explore. I may have natural items at the science table (shells, rocks, seeds) along with magnifine glasses. We also experiment with magnets, scales, mixing colors, and prisms.
- Writing table-A variety of writing materials and paper is provided so children can experiment and explore writing.
